The wind blows stronger off coastal shorelines creating an ideal location for wind farms. This Phillipines' coastal wind farm, built in 2005, in Bangui Bay, Ilocos Norte, was the first wind farm in Southeast Asia. The Phillipines Department of Energy expects to initiate six new wind projects in 2009. Click here for larger image. |

The Altamont Pass Wind Farm near San Francisco, California (built in 1981) contains smaller and older (egg-beater-style) wind generators. People say the wind is so strong in this area that it constantly emits an erie howling sound. Travelers on Hwy.580 park on the roadside to get a view of the wind towers and cows grazing underneath them.

Okay, we agree, its not as "senic" as the hills in California, but there are plenty of wide-open spaces in Texas, and one of the strongest wind corridors in the U.S., which makes Texas perfect for building large-scale wind farms. This is the Brazos Wind Ranch. TXU Energy buys the power from this wind farm to supply approximately 30,000 homes. Photo Courtesy of Wikipedia.com Click here for larger image.
